To become a member of ALJALS an individual must fall within one of the three categories of membership. The categories are:
- Full membership
- Associate membership
- Honorary membership
Full members are qualified librarians employed to the Jamaica Library Service.
Associate members are librarians who are no longer with the organisation and held membership in the Association prior to leaving.
Honorary members are persons whose membership status is one quarter of Full membership and was deemed by the Association in a General Meeting to be a person (s) who significantly contributed to the profession of Librarianship.
Further requirements for a person to qualify for a Full or Associate membership are:
- Persons must make a formal request for membership
- Persons must attend a minimum of two successive Regular meetings
prior to admissions.
